Sensory Integration

Part 1: Regulating Alertness & Attention
This workshop provides sound theory with practical solutions for teachers to assist children who have alertness and attention difficulties at school.

Learning Objectives

  • Understanding how the senses regulate alertness.
  • Understanding how the senses influence behaviour.
  • To identify and analyse children’s alertness and attention difficulties in class.
  • To program plan for children with alertness and attention difficulties in class.

Part 2: Sensory Perception and the Act of Thinking & Doing
This workshop provides sound theory with practical solutions for teachers to assist children who have difficulty putting their thoughts into action.

Learning Objectives

  • How the senses allow us to make sense of ourselves and the environment.
  • How the senses influence planning and organisation.
  • How the senses influence movement and coordination.
  • To identify and analyse children’s planning and coordination difficulties.
  • To program plan for children with planning and coordination difficulties.

School Readiness

This workshop provides sound theory with practical and hands on strategies for teachers to assist with planning curriculum objectives and activities for children before they attend school.

Learning Objectives

  • Improve your knowledge about the contribution of these foundation skills on a child’s learning.
  • Identify children who have delays in these areas.
  • Program for the development of these foundation skills for typically developing children and those who have learning difficulties.
  • Use a variety of specialised and non-specialised equipment in your setting.
  • Use the 7 senses to promote attention and coordination in class.
  • How to help overly active children attend for table tasks.

Gross Motor

This workshop provides sound theory with practical and hands on strategies for teachers to assist with planning curriculum objectives and activities for children who are clumsy or poorly coordinated.

Learning Objectives

  • Knowledge of the expectations of gross motor competence for children starting school.
  • Understanding how the sensory, motor and perceptual foundations influence gross motor performance.
  • To identify, classify and program plan for children with gross motor difficulties.
  • How to use a variety of specialised and non-specialised equipment to support the needs of children with gross motor difficulties.

Handwriting

This workshop provides sound theory with practical and hands on strategies for teachers to assist with planning curriculum objectives and activities for children who have messy handwriting and/or who are slow with handwriting.

Learning Objectives

  • Understanding how the sensory, motor and perceptual foundations influence handwriting performance.
  • To identify, classify and program plan for children with handwriting difficulties.
  • Promote effective holding of a pencil.
  • How to use a variety of specialised and non-specialised equipment to support the needs of children with handwriting difficulties.
